First Nations Education Steering Committee
- Our most significant client, we have been working with this influential organization since 1999. Currently a $20+ milliion dollar organization, we have developed many programs and policies around First Nations educational technology through the First Nations SchoolNet program.
- Some highlights include:
- In August 2008, we presented a "Future of Work" presentation
- In April 2007 we wrote a strategy document on e-learning for BC First Nations Schools.
- The development of two Aboriginal Language manuals for distribution and sharing with First Nations.
- The development of four years of First Nations SchoolNet programming and assisting with the planning, budgeting and expenditure of more than seven million dollars.
- Assisting with youth capacity building projects, including dozens of workshops and conferences, including the highlight - over 750 students attending the Aboriginal youth conference in Kamloops in 2005.
- The national participation in the regional management of First Nations SchoolNet including participation in program management and direction.
- Participation in the strategy, policy and discussion around First Nations education and the impact of technology.
First Nations Technology Council
Phillip Djwa sat on the FNTC as the FNESC delegate from 2002-2008 with the portfolio for First Nations technology capacity building in BC. The FNTC is responsible for assisting the Chief's in BC in understanding and implementing technology.
Industry Canada:
We are very familiar with the practices and operations of Industry Canada, having worked with them closely on a number of projects, including:
- 'Riding the Internet Telephony Mainstream" Report where we worked locally with the Industry Canada communications office to develop a report on the current possibilities of webcasting and voice over internet protocol.
- "You snooze, you lose" Report on the economic impact of broadband in the Peace River and Okanagon area. Along with SFU, we co-authored this report that was used in the telecom review panel in 2005.
- Development of a WIKI on community networking.
New Media BC
- In Spring 2007, we developed a roadmap for the New Media BC board to handle the 2010 opportunities in Vancouver as well as develop two handbooks for suppliers and buyers
- We hosted a workshop as well in March 2007 for over 60 New Media professionals on 2010 opportunities
Ministry of Labour and Citizens' Services
- In Summer 2007, we developed a capacity building plan for Digital Literacy for First Nations in BC
- In Spring/Summer 2006 we completed a contract with the Ministry of Labour and Citizen's Services where we developed a strategy, visited and contacted over two dozen First Nations to determine their thinking and response to a broadband initiative.
Western Economic Diversification and the British Columbia Connectivity Cooperative
- On behalf of the BC3 and its board, DJWA operated as BC3 Manager for two years overseeing and implementing their program, deliverables and acting as their agent in all member dealings.
- In this time, we administered a budget of $500,000 from Western Economic Diversification and delivered on their required deliverables
- Delivering two conferences of over 200 people, including community champions, vendors and a wide variety of stakeholders
- Arranging for the delivery of over 70 workshops, seminars, and regional sessions in all areas of the province.
- Development of a strategic plan and its implementation
- Development of a submission to the Telecom Review Panel.
College of New Caledonia
- On behalf of the College and Karo, we visited over 9 communities in the North around Prince George and conducted focus groups on the brand and positioning of the College to staff, students and faculty. This resulted in a new logo for the college and a rebranding of their message.
First Peoples' Language and Heritage Committee
- In 2007, we developed a policy manual to guide First Nations communities into understanding how they would engage with the FirstVoices team and bring FirstVoices, an innovative online Aboriginal language initiative, to their community.
Aboriginal Business Service Canada
- In 2007, we reviewed the ABSN website and completed a comprehensive audit and recommendation report.
